The beautiful Zhu Jiang (Pearl River), here at Guangzhou, is the third longest river in China after the Yangtze River and the Yellow River.
It flows into the South China Sea between Hong Kong and Macau. The river is also known as Yue Jiang (Guangdong River), named after a sandy or stony island in the middle of the river, called Sea Pearl. This island is now in the bank, due to the river’s change of course.
The lower reach of the river forms the Pearl River Delta.
